From an empty sheet to a finished cut list
How Wiring Studio models a harness, what it calculates from that model, and how each view feeds the bill of materials and cut list.

Exporting to PDF, Excel and CSV
Export Project turns your project into a PDF document, an Excel workbook or a CSV file. The PDF combines any of design layout, schematic wiring, pin configuration, BOM and cut list, for the sheets you choose: a build package for the bench, a costed document for a customer, or a full record for the archive. Excel and CSV carry the pin configuration, BOM and cut list as data you can sort, filter and import elsewhere.
Opening the dialog
Open Export Project from the actions panel or the canvas context menu. In the desktop app you can also use Project > Export or Cmd/Ctrl + E.
To print the Design view at true physical scale instead of fitting it to a page, use Print Formboard — see Formboard printing.

Choosing a format
Pick a format at the top of the dialog.
- PDF — pages with Design Layout, Schematic Wiring, Pin Configuration, Bill of Materials and Cutlist. The rest of this chapter describes the PDF unless it says otherwise.
- Excel — an .xlsx workbook with a worksheet per sheet and table. See Excel and CSV.
- CSV — one table as a plain text file. See Excel and CSV.
The dialog reopens with the format you used last on that device.

Choosing what goes in
Five views can go into the document, in any combination.
- Design Layout — the Design canvas as an image, with every component, cable and label.
- Schematic Wiring — the Wiring canvas, showing the pin-to-pin connections.
- Pin Configuration — the cavity table for each connector.
- Bill of Materials — the BOM table.
- Cutlist — the cut list table.

Sheets
When the dialog opens, every view and every sheet is selected. Click a sheet to leave it out, or use Select All and Select None. Each selected sheet gets its own copy of each selected view, so a three-sheet project exported with all five views has fifteen sections. A table with nothing in it is left out.
To get a single sheet's BOM, untick every other sheet and every view except Bill of Materials. It is the quickest way to a document for quoting one harness variant.
Table columns
Under Table Configuration you can turn off columns in each of the three tables, so the document shows only what its reader needs. Column selection works the same way for PDF, Excel and CSV.

- Bill of Materials — Manufacturer, Part Number, Description, Type, Reference / Used On, Unit Price, Quantity, Sum, Total.
- Cutlist — Manufacturer, Part Number, Source, Target, Length, Cut Length, Quantity.
- Pin Configuration — Pin, Description, Contact, Wire Seal / Cavity Plug, Network, Wire, Color Code, Destination.
A part's series does not have its own column, so you cannot turn it off separately. It is printed with the part's description: in the BOM's Description column, and in the Contact, Wire Seal / Cavity Plug and Wire cells of the Pin Configuration table.
In the BOM and cut list, fewer columns leave more room for the rest. Dropping Unit Price, Sum and Total from the BOM also keeps pricing out of a document you hand to someone else.
Running the export
Click Export PDF. A progress bar shows the percentage done and the sheet and view being processed. The app switches sheets and views while it captures the canvases, then returns you to where you were. The PDF downloads when it finishes.

The PDF is built on your own machine, so export works offline and your project is not uploaded to create it.
What the PDF looks like
- Filename — the project name and the export date, for example Main_Harness_2026-09-15.pdf. Exporting a revision adds _Rev and its number, as in Main_Harness_2026-09-15_Rev3.pdf.
- Page size — A4 landscape.
- Design and wiring pages — a border and a title block with the project name, sheet, view, author, date, revision (the revision number when you export a revision, otherwise 1.0) and page number, as page X of Y. The author is the organization's name for an organization project, or your name or email address for a personal one.
- Table pages — each table starts with a heading that names the view, the project, the sheet and the date. A table longer than a page continues with its column headers repeated. Table pages have no title block or page number.
- Layout — each view starts on a new page, and each sheet's views are grouped together. Canvas images are scaled to fit the page above the title block.
Design and wiring pages show the whole drawing, not just what is on screen, so your zoom level does not matter. They always use the light canvas theme and leave out the grid.
Excel and CSV
Excel and CSV export the three tables only, for when you want to sort, filter, price or import the data somewhere else. Design Layout and Schematic Wiring are images, so the dialog marks them PDF only. Sheet and column selection work as they do for the PDF.

Excel
- A worksheet per sheet and table — by default the workbook has one worksheet for each selected sheet and table, named after both and grouped by sheet: Engine BOM, Engine Cutlist and Engine Connectors, then the next sheet's worksheets. The worksheets of one sheet share a tab colour. An Info sheet comes last, with the project, revision, author, export date, units, the cutlist and price multipliers, and the sheets included.
- Split by sheet — an Excel-only switch in the export dialog, on by default and remembered on that device. Turn it off for one worksheet per table (BOM, Cutlist and Connectors), each holding the rows from every selected sheet behind a leading Sheet column.
- Ready to sort and sum — the BOM and Cutlist worksheets have a frozen header row with filters. Prices, quantities and lengths are stored as numbers, so they sum and sort correctly. Lengths are in mm or inches according to the project's units, and the cutlist's length headers say (mm) or (in).
- BOM totals — the BOM has a bold Total row for each sheet.
- Connectors — laid out like the PDF's pin configuration, with a block per connector. Each block starts with the connector's name, then its part number, manufacturer and description, with the contact arrangement image beside that title block when the part has one. Below come a header row and one row per wire end. Pin, Description, Contact and Wire Seal / Cavity Plug cells span all the wire rows of a cavity. Contacts, wire seals and wires each get their own part number, manufacturer and description columns. Because of the block layout these worksheets have no filters. With Split by sheet off, each sheet's blocks sit under a heading row with the sheet's name.
- Colours as filled cells — wire colours and colour codes are filled cells rather than hex text. A wire has a square for its colour and, when it has one, a second square for its stripe. Colour codes get one square per heat-shrink band, and those columns appear only when the sheet uses colour codes.

CSV
- One table per export — choose Pin Configuration, Bill of Materials or Cutlist. Rows from every selected sheet go into that one table, with a Sheet column first to tell them apart.
- Opens directly in Excel — the file is UTF-8 with a byte order mark, so accented characters come through correctly.
- No totals row — the file holds data rows only.
- Pin configuration — one row per wire end, with the connector, part number and cavity details repeated on every row so you can filter on any of them. Wire colours are hex text with any stripes after a slash, such as #ff0000/#ffffff, and colour codes are a comma-separated list.
- Filename — named like the PDF with the table name added, for example Main_Harness_2026-09-15_BOM.csv.
Both formats are built on your own machine, so nothing is uploaded and they work offline. The one exception is the contact arrangement images in the Excel Connectors worksheets: they are fetched when you export, so an offline Excel export leaves out any the desktop app has not cached and keeps everything else. AI assistants connected through MCP can read the same tables with the get_bom, get_cutlist and get_pin_config tools.
Common combinations
- Full documentation — every view, every sheet. For the archive or a customer handover.
- Production package — BOM and Cutlist only, with Unit Price, Sum and Total turned off. Everything the bench needs, without pricing.
- Design review — Design Layout and Schematic Wiring only. A visual document for a review meeting.
- Assembly instructions — Pin Configuration plus Design Layout, so the person crimping can see both the table and where each connector sits.
